Roles and Responsibilities:
 
Monitors and analyses systems performance data, and tunes operating system to improve performance, optimizes processing response time or to reflect required changes in the processing environment
Provides technical resolution/support to customers (internal and/or external)
Ensures operation is maintained at acceptable levels, including any necessary restart, recovery, and reconfiguration procedures
Ensures required systems environment set-up for the projects
Collects data and performs initial problems determination on system errors or malfunctions, and works with the supplier to identify, diagnose, and rectify the problem
Performs capacity study to analyze current resource utilization and estimates future requirements
Advises development/application staff in relation to existing technical strategy and assists in evaluating proposals that involve using any OS software facilities, feature or products
Participates in the problem management process to determine the impact of identified systems errors on processing service levels and to prioritize problem resolution resources
Participates in the change management process to test and evaluate changes in the operating systems environment before cutover to the operational system
Provides technical guidance to junior colleagues in their work
Understands the interdependencies of the services (application, system, network and database) and is able to pin-point problem area accurately to improve overall efficiency
Keeps abreast of technological advancement, emerging standards and new software or hardware solutions that may affect decisions on systems building or enhancements
